Lagunitas Lil’ Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale & Easy A

Hello Drinkers!

We’re back,  feelin’ saucy and using a lot of apostrophes, so we’re drinkin’ Lagunita’s Lil’ Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale and watching the Emma Stone vehicle Easy A. Right off the bat I’ll tell you that neither is something I normally go for, but hey, no harm in trying new things, right?

So let’s talk about Easy A. Like any self-respecting high school movie should be, the actors are too old, the characters too narrow and the emotions overstated. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Sure most of the characters of Easy A speak in sharp, erudite witticisms a’la Juno and Emma Stone’s screen parents are too cool and might overshare a bit, but that’s all part of the fun. While some of the cast can’t seem to keep up (re: Amanda Bynes), Emma Stone seems perfectly at ease and really carries the film, which is a good thing considering she’s the star. So what if Easy A is a tad hyperbolic (do you really expect us to believe that Emma Stone would really pass through high school completely unnoticed? Come on.), the movie does not try  too hard and does quite well for itself. It’s fun, it’s funny and Emma Stone wears a bunch of corsets, so what’s not to love?

Yeah, no one notices the hot girl in highschool.

So how about a Lil’ Sumpin’ Sumpin’? Well, for better or worse, it’s not what I expected. Its got a very fragrant, almost floral smell to it, but when you take that first sip, you’re in for a bit of a surprise. The first sensation is actually quite mild and smooth, but after a second or two, deep, bitter hoppiness comes rolling across your tongue before it fades. I’m not one for super hoppiness but this beer actually has some charm to it. It doesn’t beat you over the head or linger around unwantedly. For those who are not fans of the bitterness in your beers, or you’ve never tried a bitter beer, give this one a shot. You might find yourself pleasantly surprised.

So what did we learn tonight? Sometimes, giving your night that extra Lil’ Sumpin’ Sumpin’ is worth your while, even if you’re a virgin.

Tonight’s Tasting Notes:

Lagunitas Lil’ Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale:
Floral scent.
Bitter, but not unbearable.
Good gateway beer.

Easy A:
Overstated in all the right places.
Movie high school is way more awesome than real high school.
Emma Stone is a looker. What a surprise.
